Thank you very much. That sounds like quite a trip too. I'd thought I'd travel back from Greece through the western Balkans but there's no easy train ride at the moment via Serbia, Croatia and so on. Apparently, if you get a bus from Thessaloniki to Sofia then there's a feasible train route, so maybe next time!
I did the ferry trip in 1975 (!) but it went to Brindisi then. Sleeping on deck no fun….
