I’ve been writing about European politics and the state of the European Union for over three decades. From the continuing debacle of Brexit - and its impact on Scotland, the UK and the EU - to Scotland’s independence debate and its prospects of rejoining the EU, to the biggest challenges facing the EU from climate change and biodiversity to security, enlargement, migration and more, this newsletter will provide up to the minute commentary, analysis and reflection.

In 2017, I set up Scotland’s first independent EU-focused think tank, the Scottish Centre on European Relations, which ran until 2021 (and was recognised for three years running as one of the best new global think tanks).

I will also post some photo blogs, mainly focused on nature, especially but not only in Scotland, and occasional travel pieces.
